President, SUNY Health Science Center
Chairman, University Hill Corporation
The University Hill area of Syracuse, New York, is a unique one square mile
community of medical and educational institutions, businesses, houses of
worship, and cultural establishments. But their physical proximity is not
their only commonality. The link between them is the University Hill
Corporation, a private, not-for-profit organization with an active agenda
to plan and implement for the growth, development, and social well being of
the University Hill.
Formed in 1963, the University Hill Corporation is charged with
making
thoughtful, long-range plans for the Hill community to maintain it as a
place where people would want to live, work, and study. As stated in its
charter, the corporation's objective is "To Seek a Common Solution."
A catalyst for action, the University Hill Corporation works with its
members in planning and executing new development on a continuing basis.
Functions performed by the University Hill Corporation include:
The future of the University Hill is bright. Many major developments
are
currently underway and plans for the future suggest that this area will
continue to experience significant growth and expansion. The Hill has seen
more than $400 million in new development in the 1990s, and through the
year 2000, investments by Hill institutions and businesses will have topped
$500 million.
These are exciting times, and I'm proud to say that University Hill
is,
indeed, "on top of it all"!
