University Hill Perspective

office space

Madison Irving Medical Center was constructed in 1986 on the corner of Madison Street and Irving Avenue at a cost of $11 million. This 90,000 square-foot building was the first in Upstate New York to offer condominium office space to physicians, dentists and other health-related professionals. In addition to 44 office units, the center has a variety of conveniences, including a diagnostic testing center, a pharmacy, a physical fitness/therapy center and a glass-enclosed atrium with a garden cafe. It also houses the portion of Crouse Hospital's One-Day Surgery Center that specializes in orthopedic and other outpatient care.

Connected to the Center is a $5 million parking garage. Located on Irving Avenue, the garage has a 550-car capacity.

The Physicians Office Building, located at 725 Irving Avenue, is a 90,000 square-foot office building for medical professionals. The building was constructed at a cost of $6.5 million and opened in 1975. Currently, the building has 50 offices with 75 physicians and approximately 750 employees. The building, which is located across the street from Crouse Hospital, has a cooperative arrangement with the hospital. The Physicians Office Building is home to part of Crouse Hospital's One-Day Surgery Center, one of the first of its kind in the country. Outpatients often have procedures such as tonsils, hernias, and eye surgery performed at this location. An underground walkway connects the Physicians Office Building, Crouse Hospital and the nearby parking garage.

The 410-418 South Crouse Avenue medical building was renovated to provide new office and outpatient treatment and counseling areas for Crouse Hospital. The building is primarily a center for chemical dependency programs. Crouse Hospital started one of the first substance abuse programs in the area. The facility offers 30,000 square feet of office space to psychiatrists, psychologists, alcoholism counselors and a number of other health-related professionals at the expanded facility. The hospital's chemical dependency programs have approximately 52,000 patient visits per year.

The Hill Medical Center, on the corners of South Crouse Avenue, East Genesee Street and Madison Street, is a physician-owned and operated building. The initial stage of this complex was completed in 1984 and comprised approximately 38,000 square-feet with ground-level parking. The second phase was finished nearly ten years later and added 57,000 square-feet, with an attached parking garage that can accommodate approximately 435 cars. The combined structure of 95,000 square-feet was designed to give the appearance of one. The brick and alucobond facade coupled with an illuminated glass block stair tower is a fascinating mixture of contemporary and traditional architecture. With nearly 45 physicians and 250 support staff working in the Hill Medical Center, this section of University Hill has quickly become a major component in dispensing health care services to all people from Upstate New York.

The Central New York Medical Center is a six-story state-of-the-art medical office facility that opened March 1997. The building contains approximately 111,000 square feet. Parking for 300 vehicles is available directly behind the building; entry is off Irving Avenue directly across from the Crouse Hospital Emergency Department entrance.
