The SUArt Galleries is Syracuse Univerisity's campus venue for the visual arts. Located in Sims Hall, the facility hosts a variety of temporary and permanent exhibitions throughout the year in its nearly 10,000 square feet of exhibition space. The department’s mission is to enhance the cultural environment of the University and the Syracuse area through meaningful educational experiences and encounters with the University’s permanent collection and traveling exhibitions. The Syracuse University Art Collections are now comprised of nearly 45,000 objects, housed in a temperature and humidity controlled area of Sims Hall. It serves as a repository for the art collections of the University; the care, maintenance, documentation, and interpretation of the works are its primary concern.
Current Exhibit: Winslow Homer’s Empire State: Houghton Farm and Beyond Showing: August 18 - October 11, 2009
Homer’s summer visits to Houghton Farm in Mountainville, New York, between 1877 and 1879 marked a crucial turning point in his career. The watercolors, oil paintings, and drawings created there signify the beginning of Homer’s artistic maturity. Also on view at the SUArt Galleries are exhibitions of prints made for the American pictorial press that were designed by Homer and his contemporaries, 19th-century American printmaking, and 19th century original illustrations made for American Book Company textbooks. Syracuse Univeristy's College of Visual and Performing Arts showcases exhibits for the School of Art and Design, and serves the students, faculty, and staff of Syracuse University, as well as the members of the Syracuse community. Students have the opportunity to curate exhibits and maintain an active role in running exhibitions. The VPA also hosts visiting artists and speakers throughout the year. Current Exhibit Visiting Artists & Speakers The Community Folk Art Center specializes in exhibiting and promoting works by African American artists and artists from under-represented ethnic groups in Central New York. Founded in 1972, the CFAC moved to its current location at 2223 East Genesee Street in 2006. The CFAC is a program of the African American Studies Department at Syracuse University. The center houses the Herbert T. Williams Art Gallery (formerly known as the Community Folk Art Gallery), as well as facilities for workshops and forums. In addition to offering thought-provoking exhibitions, the CFAC also offers many educational programs, including visual arts workshops for children of all ages.

Genesee Street and established in 2005, the Point of Contact Gallery is a space dedicated to the verbal and visual arts, and is home to the Point of Contact Collection, more than 200 pieces of photography, collage, drawings, paintings and three-dimensional works generously donated to Point of Contact by their creators. The Point of Contact Gallery presents a cross-disciplinary open forum for the discussion of contemporary art, and showcases its collection and exhibitions by contemporary artists from around the world, particularly Latin America.

Th3 is a free, citywide arts open in Syracuse that takes place on the third Thursday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The project joins the most distinctive venues in the city, including those on University Hill, in a common event to bring the artistic experience to the public, providing them an opportunity to visit participating visual arts or cultural venues.
