Crouse-Marshall Business Improvement District

At the heart of University Hill, the Crouse - Marshall business district serves a mix of neighborhood residents; local professionals; students from Syracuse University, SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, and SUNY Upstate Medical University, as well as the many visitors to the area each day.  Its main thoroughfares of South Crouse Avenue and Marshall Street provide a variety of local eatieries, specialty shops, and services.

In 2001, a major street revitalization project was completed throughout the district thanks to funding secured by former Congressman James Walsh.  One of the main components of the project was to bury the utility, cable, and telephone lines, and to reconstruct the street scape.  Additional improvements included reconfigured parking, public gathering areas, sidewalk improvements, street furniture, new trash receptacles, landscaping, and signage.

The Crouse-Marshall Business Improvement District (CMBID) was formed to maintain the improvements, and address any issues and concerns of the retail and business sector in the area.  The Crouse-Marshall Business Association is an alliance of the many businesses, restaurants, and service providers within the CMBID working to address these needs.
